VPS, VPN & EA Rules: Which Prop Firms Allow Automated Trading? (2026)
Automated trading is one of the most common reasons prop traders get flagged — but most firms allow it if you follow their rules. This page explains what VPS, VPN and EA policies actually mean, which firms allow what, and how to run automation without breaching your account. Last updated: October 2026.
Which firms allow VPS with no conditions?
FXIFY (publishes its own VPS setup guides) and Velotrade ("hosted servers and VPS are explicitly permitted"). FTMO is a near-free pass — VPS/VPN "generally allowed" with one single caveat: never set your geolocation to the United States. FundingPips is the hard ban: VPN/VPS must be DISABLED when accessing your trading account.
What Are VPS, VPN and EA Policies?
What is a VPS?
A virtual private server that runs your MT4/MT5/cTrader platform 24/7 in a datacenter, so EAs keep running when your PC is off. Firms care because your login IP becomes the datacenter IP — which must stay consistent.
What is a VPN?
Masks/changes your apparent location. Firms care because VPNs can fake your country (banned regions, US restrictions) and look like account sharing when IPs jump around.
What is an EA?
An Expert Advisor / trading bot that executes automatically. Nearly all firms allow EAs with limits: no HFT, no tick-level latency arbitrage, no exploiting platform errors.
Why Do Firms Restrict Automation?
Firms restrict automation for three reasons — and understanding them tells you exactly what to avoid.
IP Consistency & Account Sharing
Firms monitor login IPs to detect account sharing. If your IP jumps between datacenters, or multiple users log in from the same VPS, the system flags it as a potential violation.
Geo Restrictions (US Licensing)
Many firms cannot serve US traders due to regulatory licensing. VPNs that fake a non-US location — or a VPS set to the US — both trigger flags. FTMO's single caveat is exactly this.
HFT & Latency Arbitrage
VPS datacenters near broker servers can exploit latency differences. Firms ban HFT, tick-level arbitrage and platform-error exploitation — the EA itself is fine, the strategy is not.
Key point: A VPS itself is rarely banned — inconsistent or shared IPs are what get accounts flagged. FundingPips is the exception, not the rule.

Firm Deep-Dives: The 8 Most Notable
The firms with the most distinct or surprising automation policies — explained in detail.
FTMO
Official FAQ states VPN/VPS "generally allowed" — the one exception is US geolocation on MetaTrader/cTrader/TradingView. Never set your VPS region to the United States and you're fine.
FundingPips
Help center explicitly requires VPN/VPS disabled when accessing the account — the strictest ban on the site. Their Responsible Trading Policy treats any IP-masking technology as a violation.
FundedNext
VPS permitted only under $50K account size, both challenge and funded. If you're trading a $50K+ account, you must trade from your own device without a VPS.
FXIFY
The most automation-friendly firm — official VPS/EA deployment guides on their blog. Treats VPS as standard infrastructure and publishes setup walkthroughs for traders.
Think Capital
Must use their partner provider (ForexVPS) — other VPS setups are generally prohibited. If you want VPS with Think Capital, use ForexVPS specifically.
PropXP
VPS fine for uptime, but outage losses are yours. If your VPS goes down and the market moves against you, PropXP will not compensate — the loss is on your account.
Velotrade
Explicit written permission for hosted servers/VPS in algo rules. Their rulebook (effective June 2026) says "hosted servers and VPS are explicitly permitted."
Alpha Trader Firm
Zero automation of any kind. No EAs, no copy trading, no hedging, no scalping, no news trading, no weekend holding. Fully manual discretionary trading only — the most restrictive firm on this list.
How to Use a VPS Safely on a Prop Account
Five rules that keep your automated trading account safe — regardless of which firm you're on.
Use ONE VPS with a STATIC IP and never switch locations
Firms monitor login IP consistency. A single static-IP VPS is safer than hopping between home, office and travel connections. If you must change datacenters, notify support first.
Never share VPS access or run other traders' accounts from it
Multiple users logging in from the same VPS IP triggers account-sharing detection. Your VPS is for your accounts only — no friends, no family, no managed accounts.
Match your VPS region to your KYC country
If your KYC says UK but your VPS is in a US datacenter, firms flag the mismatch. Pick a VPS region that aligns with your registered address to avoid geo-circumvention flags.
Get WRITTEN confirmation from support before first use
Especially at firms with no official VPS policy (marked — in the table). A support ticket giving you written permission is your proof if the account is ever questioned.
Check your firm's IP-consistency clause before copying EAs between your own accounts
Most firms allow copy trading between your OWN accounts only. Third-party copy trading is widely prohibited. Read the IP-consistency clause to understand how the firm detects shared infrastructure.
VPS, VPN & EA FAQ
Is a VPS the same as a VPN?
No. A VPS hosts your trading platform in a datacenter so your EAs run 24/7 even when your PC is off. A VPN changes your apparent location by routing your connection through a different server. Firms treat them differently: VPS is usually tolerated (your IP is just consistent), while VPN is more restricted because it can fake your country and bypass geo restrictions.
Can I use a VPS with any prop firm?
Most tolerate it, but FundingPips bans it outright and FundedNext caps it at accounts under $50K. Think Capital requires you to use their partner provider (ForexVPS). Always check the table above before setting up a VPS — and get written confirmation from support if the firm has no official policy.
Will a VPS get my account flagged?
Only if your IP is inconsistent or shared. A single static-IP VPS that only you access is usually safer than hopping between home, office and travel IPs. The firms that flag VPS users are flagging the IP inconsistency and account-sharing risk, not the VPS technology itself.
Which firms allow EAs?
Almost all — see the table. Notable exceptions: Alpha Trader Firm (no automation of any kind), TX3 Funding Fx (EAs and copy trading strictly prohibited), Maven Trading (EAs prohibited on all accounts), and OFP (EAs forbidden on Instant accounts, allowed on Challenge only).
Can I run copy trading between my own accounts?
Most firms allow it between YOUR OWN accounts only — third-party copy trading is widely prohibited. FXIFY allows verified third-party copy trading, and Blue Guardian allows copiers on instant plans. Firms like Alpha Trader Firm, TX3, Maven, FundingRock and TradingFunds prohibit copy trading entirely.
Do firms detect VPS usage?
Yes. Firms monitor login IPs, device fingerprints and latency patterns. A datacenter IP is identifiable. Consistency is what keeps you safe — the same IP every login, matched to your KYC country, with no shared access. Inconsistent or jumping IPs are what get accounts flagged, not the VPS itself.
